Frequently Asked Questions

How does a mortgage broker get paid?

In most cases, the lender pays us a commission when your loan settles. This doesn't change your rate. We disclose exactly how we're paid in our Credit Guide, which we provide before you commit to anything.

Do you charge a fee?

For most home loan scenarios, no. There are some specialist or complex situations where a fee may apply — if that's the case, we'll be upfront about it before you commit.

Which lenders do you work with?

We work with a panel of over 30 lenders, including the major banks, mid-tier banks, customer-owned banks and specialist non-bank lenders. We can show you the full list at our first meeting.

Will applying with you affect my credit score?

A pre-assessment doesn't impact your credit file. Once you decide to formally apply for a loan, the lender will run a credit check, which is recorded on your file. We're careful not to lodge multiple applications unnecessarily.

How long does the loan process take?

From first conversation to settlement is typically 4–8 weeks for a purchase, depending on the lender, the property and how quickly we receive your documents. Refinances can be faster.

What documents will I need?

Generally: ID, recent payslips, last two years of tax returns (if self-employed), bank statements, statements for any existing loans or credit cards, and details of expenses. We'll send you a tailored list after our first chat.

Can you help if I'm self-employed?

Yes — self-employed clients are a big part of what we do. Different lenders treat self-employed income differently, and we know which ones are likely to accept your situation.

What if I have a complaint?

We take complaints seriously. Our internal complaints process is set out in our Credit Guide, and if you're not satisfied you can escalate to the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA).
